New Healthcare.gov Bill Augments User Security

This week’s shiny new object arrives gift wrapped from Washington D.C., as legislators on both sides of the aisle have come together to pass a bill that mandates the prompt informing of citizens in the event of a data breach on Healthcare.gov. Prior to the passage of this bill, the White House was not obligated to reveal any theft of personal information from Healthcare.gov users – this bill remedies that oversight by mandating notification within 48 hours. While most states have similar notification laws in place for corporations, notification requirements are not yet universal. They should be. Look for a similar bill affecting the private sector soon.
